A desktop publishing artist is a skilled DTP art director responsible for translating the templatised work of creative art directors, populating a price and product layout according to a brief, and finalising it into print and digital files.
Translate the digital artwork from art directors and graphic designers into files that are ready to go to print.
Use specialist computer software to make artwork ready for print.
Using DTP software to produce a layout of the job both digital and hard copy and prepare proofs for approval.
Working to a design brief from the client to make amendments to artwork when necessary.
Fix formatting of jobs, such as the size and style of type, column width, spacing, checking of colours, etc. to match in-house printing specifications.
Be able to prioritise a varied workload and work well under pressure and to strict deadlines.
Load artwork into relevant folders and follow current filing system.
Determine layout and other instructions to identify the work to be done.
Check final copy to make sure all is correct to print.
Save artwork under code number where applicable.
Only final artwork to be kept on the computer system, all previous artwork not in use or changes to be deleted.
Check on proofing timelines.
Systems to be backed up every Friday.
General duties
Requirements
Strong DTP with repro experience using Adobe Creative Cloud (In-design, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat) on Mac.
Good understanding of colour separations, trapping, clips and bleeds.
Minimum of three years of working experience.
Must be able to take full responsibility for the DTP function meeting deadlines
Ability to design, layout, typeset, produce finished art and produce final press-ready PDF artwork for a wide range of jobs, including annual reports, financial documents, booklets, brochures, leaflets, forms, etc.
Knowledge of colour profiles, die-traces, overprints/knockouts, bleeds and other pre-press requirements
Ability to work overtime and occasional long hours as required by the workflow/position
